How to be a Good Steward

Hello friends, today I’m talking about being a good steward!

To steward something means to look after or to manage. In the Bible, stewardship is the practice of caring for and managing the resources that God has created, such as land, animals, and people. It’s a way of recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God, and being grateful and generous with those gifts.

This would include things like :

  • Making your bed
  • Cleaning your room
  • Taking good care of your pet
  • Keeping your home tidy
  • Managing finances well

Anyone can do these things but the heart and attitude behind it matters. As Christians we just do everything for God and his glory. This is something that I have had to learn especially over household tasks and responsibilities.

Being a good stewards is first of all being thankful and content with what you have and taking care of what you have, not concerning yourself with what you don’t have and even if you have little treating it as if you have much. That is a discipline that will ultimately help you that when you do receive a blessing you will know how to manage it.

This does not mean that you will receive certain blessing on this side of earth but if you are following the Lord you will receive the kingdom of God

A steward in the Bible was someone who was given responsibility and authority to rule over a household. For example Joseph became a steward over Potiphars household. he was responsible to manage the household, and entrusted to take care of everything that Potiphar owned.

Another example is that we can be good stewards of money – am I spending frivolously? Am I being generous with what God has blessed me with? Am I being greedy or am I trusting God in my finances?

In Luke 16 :1-13, Jesus tells the parable of the unjust steward.

“Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.

“So if you have not been faithful with worldly wealth, who will trust you with what is genuine? And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own? No servant can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬-‭13‬ ‭CSB‬‬

‭Jesus is saying that we ought to be faithful in all things and love him above all things. God is not rebuking people who possess money and wealth he is saying don’t be a slave to it, we need to be good stewards and use our possessions for good and not bad and be generous with it.

We can be Good stewards of time- am I making sure to spend time with the Lord and seeking his presence? am I spending my time wisely? Or am I scrolling for hours, Am I cherishing time with my family and being annoyed and short tempered?

Good stewards of our belongings – am I taking good care of the things that the Lord has blessed me with, making my bed, doing the dishes, cleaning my apartment, even when I don’t feel like it.

Pray for guidance and seek Gods wisdom and direction on what areas of your life you can use for discipline and accountability regarding stewardship

Love,

Moriah and Hope
